While working on Humpty Dumpty we have had plenty of ideas that were all loaded with Brechtian devices. Finally we decided to stick with an idea that has a completely different interpretation of what Humpty Dumpty is usually seen as. We are having the wall be an actually barrier and on one side we have Humpty who lives in a world that is black and white a place where everyone is the same, they i no difference, and the government is watching to make sure that nobody falls out of line, and tries to be creative. On the other side of the wall we have Rain flower who lives in a free world with no government, no rules or regulations. It starts with a Brecht device of narration and flashbacks we have Angela explain Humpty being creative then he meets rain flower over the wall and she tempts him by explaining how she lives free and has colors, in her world. The government rains on Humpty's parade, by injecting him to kill his creativity and edge to explore. Humpty grows up acting the same as everyone trapped with him, then we have him walk near the wall one day on the way to work and he sees writing on a wall with this name and Rain flowers name, and he sees his then he says several times whats a Rain flower than Rain flower thinks s/he is being called so responds, then Humpty and her have a small conversation and she reminds him that he was once creative, and is capable of persuading Humpty to try come over the wall, and we have her sing while he attempts to climb the wall, the government finds him and injects him he falls back down, but the medication couldn't hold him back, so he begins the climb again and then he is shot and dies but falls over to Rain flowers side but he is now dead, so he gets freedom but it makes you think at what cost and what extremes one might go to get what they really want.
How our performance relates to the nursery rhyme:
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall:
We have him climb the wall
Humpty Dumpty has a great fall:
By being dissatisfied, he failed himself initially by shutting down his creativeness.
All the Kings horses and kings men couldn't put Humpty together again:
The governments medicine couldn't put Humptys mind in the correct mindset that it's supposed to be like and that's how the government fails.
